Living Path Oak Tree Design, Woodside, CA

The Live Oak tree shown in the photo was eroded to the point where the root system was exposed and the tree was in danger of falling into the seasonal creek below. By installing erosion control gabions along seasonal creek to prevent further erosion, building a retaining wall around the oak tree to stabilize the slope and planting deep-rooted native vegetation, the tree was saved.

We installed a 200 ft living path of chamomile to the destination point, the Oak Tree. We then created a sitting area by retaining the slope with fieldstone. The path continues around the Oak Tree where sustainably harvested redwood split rails are used to create a railing on top of the redwood retaining wall. All of the areas around the oak tree are planted with drought tolerant native perennials.
